# Atlas Coverage (/docs/start-here/coverage)



Coverage answers a narrow question: **does the Atlas currently have authored content that materially teaches or applies this canonical concept?**

It does not measure learner progress, concept importance, content quality, or mastery. A concept is covered when at least one authored page references it through validated `concepts` metadata; otherwise it stays visibly uncovered.

This makes gaps useful. The Atlas can grow by important missing territory instead of hiding it or optimizing for article count.

## How to use this view [#how-to-use-this-view]

Use coverage alongside the [Software Engineering Map](/docs/start-here/software-engineering-map). The map defines the territory; coverage shows which coordinates currently have authored support.

For an opinionated sequence through part of that territory, use [Learning Paths](/docs/learning-paths). A learning path may intentionally include uncovered concepts when they are necessary to the mental model.
